Potwari (also Pothwari or Potohari) is a dialect spoken in areas spanning over India and Pakistan (in the Pothohar Plateau in Rawalpindi, Kahuta, Gujar Khan Jehlum, up to Gujurat in the South and Chakwal in the West and Hazara in the North and Azad Kashmir in the East). It is also spoken by Sikhs from Pothohar living in India. It is a transitional dialect between Lahnda, Pahari, Hindko and Dogri. It may be referred to as Pahari-Potwari and contains many sub-dialects, including Dhundi- Kairali, Chibhali, Mirpuri, Jhelumi, Pindiwali and Punchhi. Speakers of Potwari often understand Punjabi.
